The VALLEY

Established in 2010, The Valley is a non-profit sanctuary for horses saved from abandonment or mistreatment. Our mission is to create a natural herd environment where each horse has the opportunity to re-establish its natural behaviour and find its place within the social hierarchy of the herd.

Ibiza Horse Valley, nestled in a 40-hectare canyon within the Es Murta Natural Park in the North of Ibiza, is more than just a sanctuary. It's a reflection of how horses thrive when living as they would in their natural habitat. Each horse that finds its way to us brings with them a unique story and background, contributing to the diversity of our herd.

Rehabilitating horses, helping them regain trust and adapt to their natural behaviours, is a lengthy and resource-intensive process. As a non-profit organisation, we rely on the generosity of donors and sponsors to support our mission. If you'd like to contribute, please consider donating or sponsoring one of our horses. Details can be found at the bottom of this page.

At Ibiza Horse Valley, every horse that comes to us finds a permanent home. We do not sell or rehome any of our horses. Additionally, we offer livery services for those looking to provide a permanent home for their own horses within our herd.

THE TEAM

In 2005, David returned to his childhood home of Ibiza and reentered the horse world. While managing a stable with more than 60 liveries David understood horses should not live like this. At the end of 2010, David and Monique met through their common passion: horses. David shared his dream with Monique: Ibiza Horse Valley - a home where horses can be horses. Together the couple kept on creating. Monique & David want to thank family, friends and Ibiza Horse Valley’s loyal sponsors for their support and help along the way. The couple David & Monique continued building and one could say: The valley is built upon belief & passion.

David passed away unexpectedly at the end of 2020. Whilst the passion and belief that The Valley is built on remains, losing David was a huge tragedy for my personal life as well as for The Valley and the horses. The life and continuation of The Valley have been put to the test. We have overcome many challenges but sadly there are still more to come.

Volunteers

David’s passing caused an unrealistic workload on Monique and it is with the help and kindness of family, friends & volunteers that the Valley keeps going. Volunteering in the Valley evolves around helping with feedings & spending time with our herd taking care of them.

Minimum requirements for becoming a volunteer in the Valley:

  • A big heart in general and especially for horses

  • Available at least once a week - year round

  • Your own transport

  • Lives in Ibiza

We would like to thank all of you who have volunteered so far and helped to keep the Valley going!

DonationS

Ibiza Horse Valley is a non-profit sanctuary (not government-sponsored) and completely relies on the sponsors, donors, and the donations we received from our experiences. Our main experience has always included riding. Unfortunately, the majority of our herd is now unrideable (due to old age, blindness, chronic illnesses, etc).

Until now, we managed to keep our promise to our horses. However, sustaining our current herd and extending our reach to rescue more horses is a significant financial challenge now more than ever. After the pandemic, losing David, increased food prices, hay shortages on the island due to drought (the hay prices have increased x6), and lack of rideable horses, we find ourselves in survival mode.

how can you help the herd:

Your continuous support is vital for us to maintain our current herd and expand our capacity to rescue more horses. By committing to a monthly donation, you enable us to provide these horses with a secure and healthy life.

To support us, choose your monthly donation amount and provide your details. Your contribution will be automatically transferred to our PayPal account until you choose to unsubscribe. Additionally, you have the option to support a specific horse in our herd or designate your donation to a specific area such as food, farrier care, veterinary services, insurance, or general maintenance of the Valley. All donations and sponsorships are welcome.

We've chosen to work with PayPal for donations as it minimises bank costs and ensures the most efficient transfer of funds.

On behalf of all our horses, we thank you!
